The film will be released in the United States on March 31, 2021. The film was also accessible on HBO Max until April 30, 2021, at which point it will be removed.

The film is getting a sequel.

In 2024, five years after Godzilla and Ghidorah fought and killed each other for power, Godzilla and Kong are still the only Titans on Earth. Skull Island's climate has become unstable because of a storm caused by Ghidorah and the storm cell that surrounds the island. Monarch had to keep Kong inside a dome-shaped facility that simulated the island's environment, with an orphaned young Iwi girl named Jia, who is deaf and can communicate with Kong through sign language, as his company.

But when Jia comes to pay Kong a visit and holds out a doll to him, the Titan, knowing that Kong is stuck within the biodome, discovers this and instantly tosses a tree at the doll, killing her.

A Pensacola Apex facility seems to be under assault by Godzilla just as employee Bernie Hayes, the presenter of a Titan conspiracy theory podcast known as the Titan Truth Podcast, has completed uploading material revealing suspicious operations there. Bernie stumbles into a curious piece of equipment amid the remains of the building after Godzilla's rampage that resembles a big robotic eye

When it comes to finding a major energy source in the Hollow Earth, Apex's founder and CEO Walter Simmons enlists the assistance of Nathan Lind, a former Monarch scientist who has now become an expert on the Hollow Earth theory. The fear of dying himself in an anti-gravity zone makes Nathan apprehensive to visit the Hollow Earth with his brother. After Walter discloses that Apex has built and developed Hollow Earth Aerial Vehicles, specialized vehicles that can survive the gravity field's pressure, he finally decides to cooperate.

Nathan, Ilene, Jia, and an Apex crew lead by Walter's daughter Maia board a customized boat with a barely drugged Kong locked up to keep him from escaping. On a rainy night, Kong grows unhappy and begins to tug on the shackles that restrict him, but Jia calms him down by allowing her and Kong to hold fingers in solidarity as Kong signs the word "home" much to Ilene's surprise. The following day, Ilene tells Nathan about raising Jia as her adopted daughter when violent and unpredictable storms wiped away most of the Iwi and her parents, but Jia was the sole survivor since Kong was the one who protected her, which led to the two forging a relationship.

Nathan, seeing no other choice, determines that the crew should instead shut off all of the ships' power in order to fool Godzilla into believing that he has destroyed them and Kong has been beaten, which they finally succeed in doing. Godzilla looks about at the shattered fleet with a puzzled expression on his face and then swims away, certain that he has triumphed. As a result of realizing that Godzilla may resurface if the ships are reactivated, the survivors adjust their plans and instead fly Kong to a Hollow Earth entrance point in Antarctica, the location where Ghidorah was first frozen. Jia reveals to Kong that his house is via the front door, but that he is apprehensive about going through it.

Upon finding Bernie, Madison and Josh realize that he is Mark's daughter and he joins them in their investigation. The "eye" Bernie had previously indicated has gone from the Apex headquarters. The group mistakenly sealed and moved Skullcrawler eggs to Hong Kong through an underground conduit.

There, the three disembark and discover Apex's ultimate weapon "Mechagodzilla" a mechanized counterpart of Godzilla being controlled by the late Dr. Ishiro Serizawa's son and Walter's chief technology officer Ren Serizawa. To put Mechagodzilla's strength to the test against the Titans, Walter summons a huge adult Skullcrawler designated "Number 10" into the room as soon as the mecha is ignited. The beast is on the point of attacking Madison, Josh, and Bernie when it is captured and detained by Mechagodzilla, who cleaves the Skullcrawler in two with a tremendous red energy beam, enabling Madison, Josh, and Bernie to take refuge in a tiny hatch. However, the test is cut short as the mecha instantly turns down owing to power supply limits.

As a result, it becomes clear that Walter's goal is to use the energy of the Hollow Earth to defeat Mechagodzilla. Because Apex is attempting to replace him and all the Titans so that humans may become Earth's supreme race, Godzilla attacked because of Mechagodzilla. Madison and the others stumble upon a room in which Ren is controlling the mechanical godzilla Mechagodzilla via radio waves after Apex acquired it from Alan Jonah after it was bitten off by Godzilla five years ago during his battle with Ghidorah. Ren is sitting in the severed head of Ghidorah, which has been turned into a biological supercomputer and cockpit.

Kong and Nathan's crew discover an ecology that is identical to that of Skull Island within the Hollow Earth. They are assaulted by a pair of Warbats while traversing the countryside, with one of the Warbats destroying one of the HEAVs in the process. Kong was able to rescue the party by killing the first Warbat and swinging its carcass onto the second Warbat, knocking it out cold. However, the beast recovers and constricts itself around Kong, saving him from certain death. In order for the Warbat to suffocate Kong, the creature is hit by missiles fired by Nathan's squad from their HEAV, allowing Kong to break free and savagely thrash the monster to death before feeding on the Warbat's corpse by consuming its intestines.

Following that, Kong and Nathan's squad begin their quest, finally arriving at a massive stone temple that previously belonged to Kong's forefathers. They discover remnants of an old fight between Kong's and Godzilla's races as they investigate within, and Kong discovers an antique axe crafted from a dorsal plate of a dead member of Godzilla's race before sitting atop a colossal throne. Kong discovers that the same power source that Nathan's crew needs to enhance Mechagodzilla's power supply can also replenish the axe. Despite Ilene's protests that Apex cannot just grab the discovery of the century, Maia and the Apex crew employ spider-like drones to collect the power source and return it to their Hong Kong headquarters. Maia orders her guards to fire at Nathan's crew, only for Kong to aggressively yell at them in response. Meanwhile, Mechagodzilla sends a signal to Godzilla, who detects the machine's activation and rushes towards Hong Kong.

Godzilla shows pity and saves Kong's life before walking away, leaving Kong alive but seriously hurt, ultimately losing consciousness due to commotio cordis.

While Josh and Bernie try unsuccessfully to deactivate the rampaging robot remotely and Madison tries to summon Mark for assistance, Godzilla and Mechagodzilla battle. At one point, both fire their energy beams at each other, which lock together, only for Mechagodzilla to win, knocking Godzilla over and burning him. While Mechagodzilla proceeds to overrun and thrash Godzilla, Nathan, Ilene, and Jia approach an unconscious Kong, where Jia notices his pulse diminishing. Ilene explains that they are unable to produce a charge large enough to restart Kong's heart, but Nathan, remembering Maia's earlier statement about the HEAVs producing a charge large enough to power Las Vegas for a week, flies the remaining HEAV onto Kong's chest and sets it to self-destruct, detonating the craft and releasing a massive electrical charge that instantly revives Kong.

Monster Reviews

The reviews for Godzilla vs. Kong have been overwhelmingly positive. According to Rotten Tomatoes' "Tomatometer" score as of April 16, 2021, there are 341 reviews, 254 of which are fresh. If you're looking for action, don't bother watching Godzilla vs. Kong because of the human drama or character development.

On April 17, 2021, it was announced that Godzilla vs. Kong had topped the entire box office of the film Godzilla: King of the Monsters, albeit still having a relatively depressed box office owing to the epidemic.

Since 1962's King Kong vs. Godzilla, this is the first time Godzilla and King Kong have appeared in a film together in 59 years.

Kyle Chandler has appeared in two King Kong films, the first of which being Peter Jackson's 2005 adaptation.

Because to Chandler's roles in King Kong, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong, he has the distinction of being the only person to appear in a King Kong picture, a Godzilla film, and a Godzilla-Godzilla crossover film.

The sequence in which Kong slams his right shoulder against a building to reposition it (after it was dislocated previously) might be a nod to Martin Riggs' notorious ability in the Lethal Weapon series.

Mechagodzilla's base is underground and capped by a pyramid, like the Central Dogma.
